What it means to be a citizen





Greetings my friends. Everywhere you look, in every society, you will have a social standing, a way for people to be over one another. This is just a way of life and even more on here, considering the setting. So I thought I would type this up for everyone. Starting from the Lowest class and working my way up.

Gladiator- The lowest of the social classes. A gladiator belongs to a school. Generally owned by one person or a family. A gladiator generally speaking, had very little rights. Where they were not treated as a standard slave. They were expected, once they had rose for the morning, and said their morning prayers, to train in the court yards or sands, on improved tactics, and attend classes on winning the crowd. The gladiator does not count towards the census of Remia, as they are not people, they are property. The greatest reward to a gladiator is to earn his/her Rudis, the wooden sword which is a sign of their freedom. Upon exit of servitude as a gladiator, one is a free man but NOT a citizen. That right has to be worked towards. A well careered gladiator that is awarded an award or a rudis by the emperor, upon retirement, is granted their citizenship. To be a part of the gladiator class, request it on the forum and the Admin staff will place you in one of the gladiatorial schools.



Slave- The slave is a major part of the Remian society. Not being what we currently know as a slave. A slave is one whom works for or belongs to a house. It is common to be owned by a person, and be subserviant to them within the setting. To play a slave vice the Plebian class, simply request it on the forum as an OPEN slave, and the staff will assign a house to you. This way, you can serve them and either work yoru way to a free citizen or stay whichever you choose. If you are applying for an open slave, a member of the Admin staff will contact you to see what you are looking for in yoru servitude. We do try and not cross any lines our players are not comfortable with.

A slave may be beated or killed at anytime for any reason or no reason at all -BY THE MASTER OF THE SLAVE- slaves that ran away were often branded wit FUG upon the forhead for fugitive, or FUR for a theif.

Slave to another player: A request for such should be posted on the forum and a post by both players saying they understand what this means for both the owner and the slave should be on that thread. Owners are responcible for the upkeep and treatment of the slave, and are held responcible for their actions.


Freeperson (Non citizen)- Same as the Plebian class, just not a citizen. See plebian class for details. Plebian is higher on the social pole while within remia and her territories.


Plebian- A Plebian class member, of pleb, is a standard citizen of Remia. They have the right to vote, and own property. They are usually store owners, or establishment owners, soldiers or actors. The pleb has the ability to be whatever their heart desires. All players in Remia, unless otherwise requested, start out as a pleb. If your charecter is from somewhere other than Remia, you start as a Free person, with citizenship in one of the many other cities of the world. The pleb counts against the census in Remia.



Equestrian Class- This is the upper class. Members in this class usually own a plot of land and have servants. Usual NPC acceptance into this class requires and income of 40,000 gold a year. It generally isn't the easiest of classes to enter. If one is a soldier and enters the Equestrian class, or is already in such class, they are USUALLY in a knight's status. usually heading a cohort of men. These members also serve as aids to senators or otherwise are people of note in the empire. In order to be the head of a legion, one must reside within this class. Players whom wish to join this class, need to contact the Admin staff and a review of your charecter will be made and a decision will be made, and a reply will be given. This is the upper class without any political influence



Patrician Class- People within this class are Senators of the empire. They are generally wealthy and usually require very little. It is generally self explanitory that this is the top teir of social classes besides royalty. The have major political influence and Your generals, Senators, High office holders come from here.
