Amazon Nation
"Men have their uses, and not always in bed."

Location: The Amazon Nation is located in a very key and central location: the Eastern most island in the ______ sea. Many nations would want to call this island their own. Ty, as it was named after the first Queen of the Amazons, is surrounded by reefs on most sides, making her very defensable. Even though she is saught after by other nations, the Amazons have managed to keep invaders at bay, even at unsurmountable odds - some say this is due to the direct intervention of their Goddesses.

While they are protective of their lands, they are not without mercy. Ships sometimes fall aground atop the reefs due to storms or poor navigation; if seen in time, the Women of the Nation will assist and make well the sailors and then send them on their way. However, sometimes it is said they become enchanted with the island and the women within, and simply wish to stay as husbands and mates.


City: The main city is located almost exactly in the center of the island atop a steep mountain. In the center is a shrine bult to both Athena and Artemis. This is where most of the women go to pray daily, and where on religious holidays the women of the Nation converge to celebrate as one.

It is no small city, but a grand city of Scholars, Artisans, Craftsmend and the like. Each caste works hand in hand with others.


Structure: Councilar Matriarchy with Queen as leader.


Languages: Common. Other dialects are spoken and they do have their own version of speach (a mixture of hand movements for more subtal speak, and spoken words for more direct approaches). However, common is a language that all most learn to be indoctrinated into the Nation.


Goddesses: Athena and Artemis

Both are worshiped for differing reasons, but they are the prefered goddesses by the Amazon Nation.


Social: The women of the Amazon Nation are not your tupical women of the world. Indeed, they are fierce and fearless. Their stance on the world are that they are better than men at most everything.

Some Amazons are born, while others are brought into the fold. Each for differing reasons. Some are abused women who are sheltered and adopted into the families within the Nation, where as others are warriors and have the fierce spirit of the Amazon.

Either way, they are new blood.

No woman has a last name, as all are equal within the society. Each pulls their own weight. Be it by working and tilling the land, or by being counsul to the younger generation becuase they are elder.

They are very laid back while at home, as they trust one another with their lives. Fights do occur, but they trust their elders judgement - and if that fails, the judgement of their Goddesses.


Heiarchy: There is a queen who is voted on by the council. When a challanger steps foward (this can be any woman of the Nation, so long as they are inducted) the Council gives a vote of confidence (at a 5:7) where none may abstain all must vote yae or nae. Once the confidence is granted, the Queen and the challanger must then go through three seperate trails, the victor of two is then inducted as a Queen. The challanges are: Wits, Strength, Diplomacy. The first the women are forced to think on their toes for anwsers. Strength is where the two must face either in combat, non-lethal. Diplomacy is where the two must face the council and try their case, so to speak, and sway the council again 5:7 is needed and none may abstain.

The council is the ruling voice of elders. Well, usually elders. The group is a seated group of the 7 first families of the Amazon. The elders of their families. They must be of the blood line, not a person who was adopted into the family.

The rest of the people are an eclectic group of Warriors, Scholars, Artisans, and Laborors. Each woman is expected to pull her own weight.


Dress: This varies. This depends on the type of person they are and where they are in the world. Some assimialte to their new climates where as others wear traditional Amazon wear of relaxed dresses of bright colors.


Holidays: The main Holiday that is known throughout is the Day of Rest. It is said to be the day that the island was given to Tyiani a human woman who saught out a place to take and protect injured women in her care. It is said she prayed daily for years to the two goddesses she knew would listen, wishing a path a direction to take the women in her care - and she was given, after nearly ten years, a vision to where she needed to go. When they arrived, after months longer of travel, they found a path leading to the center of the island and atop was the temple. Already created, already there for them with food and refreshment - a place to rest for the first time in a long time.

The Day of Rest is celebrated every ten years. It is to show the time that she was faithful, the time she spent bringing the women of her nation together. Every Amazon comes home for this day. They all ascend the mountain together and enjoy a lavish feast (each having helped prepare a portion), along with song and dance. The Day of Rest lasts for ten days, where different celebrations are held. Most of which are centered toward the worship of their Goddesses and the strength of a woman's heart and soul.


Money and Goods: On the island all barter their goods; they do not question one another on the prices set - as it would be dishonrable to be dishonest in your trading with another Amazon. Not only would it ruin your name as an Amazon, Amazon names in general, but also the name of the Goddesses.

However, off the Island the women do know how to use the coins of the realm and how gems work to purchase said coin.

Their trade consists of skins, ore, gems, and the crafts of the women of the Nation. They have an abundance of trees, however, they do not use these trees but to make the fraim of their dwellings and the ships they sell. They will venture off the island to do trade - and they will allow some ships to dock and trade their wears at the docks. No outsider is allowed within the island proper without the Council approving this.

History: As told by one of the scholars of the Nation
(This is a breif history of the Nation, to explain where it came from and the like)

"About 12 Generations back a woman, Tyiani, looked after women she had taken into her care. Each had a reason for being in her estate while her husband was at war. Each was special. She had women who she had purchased from slavers that were in desperate need of a gentle hand, she had women who had run from their own homes to hide within the walls of the Lord's home. While there was conflict because some of the men wanted their wifes and daughters back, she held her ground.

See, in her mind women needed to be cared for; they were not the weaker sex - but they were the cradle of life and they were also less in stature than most men so easily pushed around when they didn't know how to defend themselves. So she took them in, she cared for them. Her personal guard, made up of 7 very distinct women were around her at all times. One might ask why she had women? Well, their husbands were at war - serving with, and for her husband.

As it became clear that more and more women were hearing of her home and traveling to seek sanctuary - she needed a new place. Some place to house them. The first year once this dawning hit her, she waited for news from her husband so she could ask of him assistance. Beloved that she was, he would not deny her. However, before she could request anything of him - he fell in battle. Leaving her and the women in a lurch. Not because they didn't have what they needed to survive, but because others would try to take back what they thought 'theirs' now that a man was not in the picture to 'offend' and to protect the women within the walls.

So, it came to pass that she prayed for years. Each night, after waging her own battle - one of wits, charm, and charisma - she would suplicate herself to her goddesses. She would openly pray, speaking outloud her need of a place that would be safe for the women in her care. Even as years passed she did not give up. Not once. She prayed each night, the words echoed night after night. Until one eve she had dream; a dream that showed her the way to an island. In her mind's eye she followed the path from a dock up a steep incline, to the apex - there at the apex was a temple. Inside were two women. One human in looks, the other elvish. Both gave her a smile - then gestured for her to turn and look. As she did, she caught a glimpse of what would soon be called Ty. And she woke up.

She, and the women, took only what they could carry and they needed. It took them well over a month to reach their destination - having to charter a boat to take them there. The captian swearing there was no such island in the sea. However, she navigated the course - he was sure he would simply be dropping them off at another port town; his money was already in hand. They reached the island, and she warned him of reefs, as she had seen them as well. Upon reaching the finely constructed docks - she knew they were home. She thanked the captian; and once the women were off the ship - they ascended the slope. And there, just as her dream, she found the temple. Inside, instead of two women - there were two statues. Their patron goddesses. She looked about; and already seen by others there was a feast waiting them.

Each woman took their turn - and ate their fill. And they rested."

"As the years progressed each found their niche. Tyiani was always in close contact with her goddesses - asking for their advice, and following it to the letter. The Council was formed, the laws laid into place. Those women who came - those whom she had adopted became her family. Her bloodline. Those adopted by the Council - those women who were her guards - became their bloodline; along with their own true-blooded children. And so it was; the Nation was born.

They did not call themselves Amazons, it was not until later after Tyiani passed from the world, that men named our people Amazons. Some had stumbled upon our docks, and our Reefs. So, stories of our culture passed from lip to lip - until tales of 'larger than life women', 'strong as a man', and 'savage' passed lips. Each story depends on the teller whether we are friend or foe, but one thing they can all agree on - we are proud, we are fierce, and we are honorable."
