Located west of Brittania lies an Island shrouded often in mists which remains a mystery to most of the world. The land called by it's inhabitants Hibernia or the Emerald Isle is a wild land, untamed by civilisation, powered by the magic of the Gods and kept safe by the bravery of it's people.
Hibernia's Populatione
Hibernia, isolated as it is gave birth to a whole new culture within it's shores. Humans, Satyrs, Elves live freely in harmony with nature around them, kept safe by it's remoteness from the mainland and world itself. While the majority of the population is made of Elves, Satyrs, Dryads and other similar creatures, consisting of about 70 percent of Hibernia's population villages on the coast and some inland are inhabited by Celtic tribes.
The Elves, Wood Elves as the majority live in the neverending magical forest at the heard of the Emerald Isle organised in loose communities that form around several root families called Kinbands. All elves in the community are educated from a young age in respecting the wilds, sword and bow use, also learning to fill roles the community needs such as blacksmiths, bowmakers and other types of artisans. Some members of the kinband are dedicated to foraging for forest fruit, hunting or caring for small orchards improvised in the Glades these kinbands inhabit. Each kinband is led by an Elder, an elf who has seen several hundreds of years of experience, knowledgeable in the administration of such a community. Revolving around these elven communities are forest spirits, safeguarding the Glades, small tribes of Satyrs who are often found undertaking a nomadic way of life, travelling the Emerald Isle from place to place, being welcome in both human and elven towns where they are appreciated for their music.
The Satyrs while mostly organised in Nomadic tribes often gather several times a year at secret locations in the forest, dominated by ancient monoliths dedicated to Artemis, where they celebrate the Hunter goddess, organise hunts, share songs and knowledge collected in their extensive travels. Sometimes elves and more rarely men join these congregations but it is only on invitation from the Satyr elders.
The lowest population in numbers are the humans, who even if they count only for 25 to 30 percent of the population they generally are similar to their elven neighbors in habits, having a more static society organised in larger villages. While the population generally exhibits the same ways of their elf neighbors they also handle sea-fishing if living on the coast and basic farming. Each human tribe is led by a hereditary line of Chieftains and should the current tribal chieftain do not produce suitable heirs one is elected from the most experienced warriors.
Religion of Hibernia
Unlike more civilised lands only a few Gods have raised to dominance within the Shores of the Emerald Isle. Artemis and Apollo, the twins are widely worshipped by the population be it Elven, Human or other more rarely encountered races such as Satyrs or forest spirits. Demeter also has shrines mostly among the human communities practicing agriculture where she is revered as the Goddess of the Earth, aiding the farmers in their cultivation. Hermes is somewhat also accepted by the Satyrs who are relentless in their travels all year round. Shrines to the Traveller and Messenger God have been found in the deep forestlands erected by the Satyrs. Known as seafarers the humans of Hibernia also bring worship to Poseidon, for protection in their journeys. Zeus is admitted as the Supreme god but sees little worship, except as a God of Rain and he is invoked adequately and treated with respect.
The Armies of Hibernia
The Emerald Isle sees little conflict with it's ancient people living in peace and harmony with each other and the land but should it come under attack all communities lay aside their peaceful occupation, gearing for war. The Elf Glade Guard, the deadliest archers known, able to move fast, redeploy as needed and keep the enemy under a hail of arrows. Besides archery the elves and humans are known as good swordmasters as well, able to handle both weapons with equal skill. During the only mass attack recorded in Hibernian chronicles the enemy was kept under harssement for a few weeks until eventually a combined force of Elves, Men, Satyrs and Forest Spirits divided the army and defeated it group by group.
Known units in the Hibernian forces are the mounted Archers, Hawk Riders, Glade Guard, Human Spearmen and Satyr outriders and Scouts.
Hibernia and Magic
With magic seeping from the ley lines into the land it is only normal Sorcerers, Druids, Clerics and Bards are a very common occurence in the land. Magically gifted people are seen as blessed by the Gods and treated with outmost respect. While humans are born with magical abilities they are taken by the elves from a young age and trained in the art they posess talent in, thus giving both human and non human communities a large concentration of spellcasters. Wizardry or book magic is generally frowned upon, thus wizards are almost unheard of in Hibernia. Even if they exist most are deported to the northern part of the land on a small Tower Island called Ravensong Isle where they are destined to live for most of their lives or should they give up wizardry they are allowed to return to the land if they take an oath to undertake more mundane activities.
