So, I've been writing and watching youtube on and off, and I've been watching different videos up there to get a feel for what I want to do with Remia.
Games such as "Rome: Total War" and the trailers for "Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising" help get ideas for what we're doing.
Ben-Hur, Spartacus
Aside from the HBO series "Rome", the movies "Gladiator", "300" and "Troy" - I've been watching other videos as well.
Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris in the "Colosseum" fight from Way of the Dragon. I watch this mostly as the idea that I would be writing eastern influences into a setting that is heavily Romanized fantasy.
"Ran" - a classic retelling of King Lear in the Sengoku Jidai period of Japanese history. This particular scene is probably one of Akira Kurosawa's masterpieces in depicting War as a Hell-like environment.

The Eastern Empire is a mish-mash of cultures, all placed in relatively close vicinity of one other.
Several different types of style and culture are founded in this one area for Remia, so inspiration for the various types of fighting can come from all over the place.
Clearly, some of my favorite battle scenes from various movies are going to come into play here.
This first one is from one of my own all-time favorite battle scenes. "Ran" is a movie directed by famed director Akira Kurosawa and starring Tatsuya Nakadai. It's a retelling of the classic Shakespearean play, "King Lear" as played by Samurai.
Jackie Chan surprised me in "the Myth" especially in this scene for a flashback to his past life as a Qin dynasty general. Part mythic hero out of a comic book or anime, part Achilles, and part Leonidas, he manages to hold his ground against a huge army of warriors on top of a mountain corpses before meeting his eventual demise.
2008's "An Empress and The Warriors" continue this trend, based on the state of Yan which is under constant warring with the state of Zhao. The titular characters here are Yen Feier (Kelly Chen) who becomes empress after the assassination of her Emperor father, and because of the unhappiness of rival generals over the appointment of Donnie Yen's General Muyong Xuehu as heir to the throne. So he refuses to partake in any more political schemes, and throws his support behind his childhood friend and unrequited love of his life, whose relationship with her is made even more complex as he has to train her to become a warrior, ala Mulan, in montage style.

Here's a scene that inspired one of my favorite NPCs, none other than the cruel and sadistic Razor.

The CHC - otherwise known as Two-Jack, Filter, John Silence, and Viktorr - was basically inspired by a number of things, from Fallout's raiders to the criminals from 1995's "Heat"

With all the heavy drama of the last few posts, I figured... why can't Remia have a bit of humor?

I fully endorse the idea of stand-up Philosophers for Remia!
